Our roads are dangerous
Let’s be real – in South Africa, every time you get behind the wheel, you run the risk of being involved in a car accident. It’s an uncomfortable, lesser-told story that only becomes apparent to its victims once they find themselves in a life or death situation!
As morbid as it sounds, you NEED to prepare yourself for worst-case-scenarios.
Here’s the real problem you’re facing
On many accident scenes information is the big question. Who is this person? How will we notify their family? To which hospital do we take them – state or private hospital? Every day paramedics ask these questions and take decisions accordingly.
In the event of a serious (and potentially life-threatening) car crash, where you’re rendered unconscious or dazed, who will speak on your behalf?
A simple solution

There’s a very simple solution to helping paramedics respond swiftly to your medical needs and contact those closest to during your times of need (P.S. – It doesn’t involve wearing a bulky, unflattering bracelet everywhere you go).
Simply install the RoadSave ICE (In Case of Emergency) tag in the back right window of your car.
The RoadSave ICE tag instantly arms emergency responders with critical information, such as your medical history, health conditions and emergency contacts. They can be better prepared in providing you with the correct medical treatment in the shortest amount of time.
Getting the right treatment at the right time could mean the difference between life and death. It reduces the risk of medical treatment errors and perhaps most importantly, allows medical professionals to diagnose and attend to injuries faster.
Here’s what Stephen Coleman, an Emergency Care Practitioner had to say 👇
How does it work?
The ICE tag is placed in the back right window of your car. You can also place the tag in your car’s sun visor and/or cubby hole. Once installed, simply complete your medical details on the RoadSave app or in chat with Jono. When you’re involved in serious car crash, paramedics scan the unique QR code that appears on the tag. After a number verification process, the paramedic is provided with the following information:
- Photo to assist with the identification process
- Special care needed due to allergies and medical conditions
- Blood type, age, gender, weight & height
- Medical aid details
- What hospital to take you to (private or public)
- Emergency contacts
Note: you’ll receive an email notification when your ICE tag is scanned, including the number that performed the scan.
Who can scan my tag?
The ICE tag can be scanned by any device with QR code scanning capabilities. Please note that the individual performing the scan has to 1) declare that the ICE tag is scanned for emergency purposes and 2) verify his/her number using an OTP (One Time Pin) feature. The verified number (which performed the scan) is also instantly sent to owner of the ICE tag as an additional security measure. We don’t share your contact information, but rather medical & emergency contact info as outlined in the section above.
Note: you can also place the tag in your car’s sun visor and/or cubby hole should you prefer.
